Abuls

This is an artisanal small cider brewery from the vicinity of Smiltene. Legally, Abuls cidery is brand new, but cider making has already started in 2000s, passionately experimenting at home with local apples every year. Later inspiration came from visiting cider lands in Normandy, Asturias, Somerset and the Basque Country. Since 2018, they have been continuing as a cider maker of Abuls cider in their farmstead on the outskirts of Smiltene near the apple orchard in the newly built cider garden at the very upstream of the Abula river.

Abuls is open to a New World approach to cider making, using white winemaking techniques that maximize the freshness of the cider and the aroma of local apples. They have also tried hopping cider and supplementing it with local wild berries, allowing natural fermentation, but remembering that everything is based on apples.
